The national press and the Gazette, a weekly magazine for the legal profession, have recently broached the subject of apologies following adverse outcomes after medical treatment. Whether medicine has become defensive, with Doctors feeling unwilling or unable to apologise and offer explanation, is a hotly debated issue. 24 July 2008

The results of a recent study carried out by researchers in to the practice of self breast examination may come as a surprise to many women who dutifully carry out the kind of monthly set breast examination often set out in books and magazines. 23 July 2008

Having watched ITV’s recent programme ‘Life and Death in the NHS’, I have to say that it was very uplifting to be reminded of all that is good about the NHS when all we tend to hear is so negative. 22 July 2008

On Tuesday 15 July 2008 Charlotte, Siobhan, Gemma and I, all members of the Clinical Negligence department, took part in ‘Store Wars’ – a charity fund raising event on behalf of Barnardo’s. The event was similar to a task from BBC’s ‘The Apprentice’, where for one day 3 teams of Pannone staff took over a Barnardo’s Charity Shop and tried to increase profits. As Jenny mentioned in her entry last week, a number of us from our clinical negligence department attended the AvMA Annual Conference in Brighton last week where Professor Richards, National Cancer Director, gave the keynote speech which was extremely interesting. He talked to us about the progress made in cancer services since the Calman-Hine Report and the plans under the Cancer Reform Strategy ... 2 July 2008
