Last week the National Institute for Health and Clinical Negligence (NICE) issued new guidelines for the treatment of lower back pain. The guidelines advocate the use of alternative therapies such as acupuncture, physiotherapy and exercise. The Coroners and Justice Bill is currently passing through Parliament setting out reforms to the current coronial law and in part the way in which Inquests are conducted. However the government failed to include in the Bill the provision for Legal Aid in order to allow bereaved families access to legal advice both before and during an inquest. 15 May 2009

Concerns have recently been raised about Sandwell Hospital in relation to their "outdated" maternity practices.
